“吃一碗泡面要花32天解毒”“Wifi辐射损害健康”“雾霾不散是因核污染”……不知道这样的结论是不是泛滥在你的朋友圈或者微信群,而你又信以为真呢??实际上这些都不是科学真相,近日,北京市科协等发布了十大科学类谣言,来看看你识破了几个??
In this age of information overload, at times it is difficult to determine the veracity of a story and we are left wondering "Is that story really true??" Dubious websites that churn out fake news every day add to the confusion.

1, Smog won't go away because of nuclear pollution
According to the rumor, the coal mines in Erdos in China's Inner Mongolia are actually KOLM mines . The myth began because large coal mines and uranium mines were all located in the same area.
Truth: Smog stagnates over a region due to meteorological reasons, mainly because there isn't enough strong wind to blow it away. As for the uranium in kolm, its concentration is as low as 2%.

2, Kids taking antibiotics once would impede growth for seven days
An article widely spread on the web claimed that children taking antibiotics once would impede the body’s growth for seven days.
Truth: Antibiotics are used for treatments of diseases which are caused by certain bacteria. The main functions of antibiotics are to kill or eliminate certain bacteria and disable the bacteria to multiply without harming normal body cells.

  3. It takes the body 32 days to detoxify after eating cup noodles
It is said that cup noodles contain 25 food additives. Furthermore, boiling water used to cook instant noodles will wash out the chemicals in the paper cup. Therefore, it will take 32 days for the human body to purge out all the toxins, after eating one cup of instant noodles!!
Truth: All instant noodles in the market have to pass a quality test administered by the Chinese food security watchdog. The outer layer of the package also needs to be of a certain standard, so that it does not compromise the safety of the contents.

4, Rats fed on genetically modified corn develop tumors
A French study published in 2012 showed that mice fed on genetically modified corn were more likely to develop tumors.
Truth: The EU's food safety agency in 2013 rejected the report, listing the weaknesses as "serious defects in the design and statistical methods employed". The study was later withdrawn by its publisher, The journal Food and Chemical Toxicology.

5, High-speed trains have radiation and magnetic problems for pregnant women
China's high-speed trains have serious radiation and magnetic problems. In order to save cost, the coach is not built with radiation-proof materials.
Truth: Passengers will not be harmed by the magnetic field created by high-speed trains. The radiation levels emitted by them are very low, which will not cause harm to the human body or cause "infertility" or "miscarriages".

  6, Wi-Fi is a health hazard
Wi-Fi uses the same radio frequency as microwave ovens. A blogger even wrote "plants won't grow around my Wi-Fi router".
Truth: Radio frequency exposures from Wi-Fi are likely to be lower than those from mobile phones. The official stance of the British Health Protection Agency is that "there is no consistent evidence so far that Wi-Fi and WLANs adversely affect the health of the general population".

7, Don't drink bottled water that has been exposed to sunlight for too long
A rumor warning that bottled water may be harmful to health, if it had been exposed to sunlight for a long period went viral on the Chinese social media platform, Wechat.
Truth: Water bottles are made of a substance called polyethylene terephthalate . You can tell if a bottle contains PET because it will have a marking – a triangle containing the digit one – at the bottom of the container.
